With 8 outstanding nominations for this prestigious award, Immanuel’s Emily Burgess has been voted by the IGSSA Sports Coordinators as the 2014 IGSSA Sportsperson of the Year. Emily has had a remarkable 12 months of competition in her sport of Netball, culminating in her being selected for Australia’s Under 19 Netball squad. Emily has participated strongly in IGSSA sport, being part of the Immanuel A grade IGSSA shield champions in each of the years she was in the team. Emily beat a strong field of nominations, in a very close count. Other nominations in 2014 were:

  • Tash Blewett (Pembroke – Volleyball)
  • Christine Gayen (St Peters – Athletics)
  • Dylan Holmes (Scotch – Soccer)
  • Euleena Maclachlan (Seymour – Hockey)
  • Millie Basedow (Walford – Netball)
  • Maddie Westcott (Westminster – Netball/Volleyball)
  • Hannah Lehmann (Wilderness – Basketball)

IGSSA Life membership has grown to 42 people, with the induction of 2 more people at this year's IGSSA Presentation Dinner. These 2 individuals collectively have provided over 30 years of service to Independent Girls school sport in South Australia, and are very worthy recipients of this prestigious honour.

This year's inductees are: Ray Baack (Pembroke) and Lyndall Pratt (Seymour).

The IGSSA Comets have been successful in winning the Under 15 national Lacrosse Championships, held in Adelaide in September. With girls from any IGSSA school eligible to try out for the team, 4 IGSSA schools were represented in the final team make up. The team gelled brilliantly, going through the tournament undefeated, and going on to win the tournament. Please see the article below, written by Luke Oswald of Lacrosse SA.

IGSSA Comets taste success at first attempt.

For the first time in a number of years there will be no changes to the IGSSA Sports Coordinators line up. All 10 IGSSA schools will have the same person in place, and the IGSSA Executive Officer will be Shane Thiele for the 8th year. After a successful 2013, the group looks forward to building the profile of IGSSA sport even more so in 2014!
